I am not a fan of this question.
Maybe it’s because I have had negative experiences with the statement that was often tied to it. But for the most part, I come from the belief that the You in this sentence is a continual , constant, evolving being.
One of the biggest breakthroughs in my life came in the moment I understood the idea that we as people, are never the same person in any given situation.
If you’re not growing , you are dying.
I find peace in this statement.
Here’s the deal: We as humans , as beings, were created to evolve, grow, develop , whatever you want to call it, until the day we die. Because of this, I don’t know that we will ever “fully know who we are.”
For the longest time, when I heard the statement, “you just haven’t figured out who you are.” Or, “When you mature and figure out who you are, things will get better,” I assumed that meant at some point, I would have this major light bulb moment where everything clicked and I would have everything figured out.
But , if we are always growing, and learning…
When do we figure out who we are?
Is it when we find our calling ?
Is it when we land that job we’ve always desired to have our whole lives?
Is it when we gain control of that one thing that has had us chained for our “whole lives”?
My thought? NO.
For me, I think I have come to find peace in the idea that I will never fully know who I am, because, as long as I seek growth and wisdom, and learn .. I don’t know the limits of who I am or who I can be.
But for now, I know this.
There are many parts to the person I am. And there will be many more events and values that determine who I will be in the future.
In the present moment Here are a few things that make up who I am.
I seek to learn.
I seek to grow.
I find joy and honor in seeing people experience freedom.
I love to laugh.
I enjoy sarcasm
I drink coffee a lot. Because it is awesome.
Music is a big part of my life.
I get angry.
I cry.
I make mistakes.
All of this is good. Well, I am choosing to see it as positive. Because of this one thing: It means I am alive, and able to experience life.
That’s what I want, to enjoy life.
What makes up who you are?
Who do you want to be?
What steps do you need to take to be who you want to be?
what do you enjoy about life?
Be encouraged,
Rachael
