Smiler’s never lose and Frowner’s Never win…
Have you ever heard that song? My grandmother is full of fun little songs like that. I love her.
Words are very important to me. They help me remember things. I have two tattoos of words on my wrist and forearm. The one on my wrist says rooted. The one on my Forearm says It is well. Both remind me daily to stay rooted in my beliefs, and the one on my forearm is my favorite hymn.
The words are this:
When peace like a river attendeth my way, When sorrows like sea billows roll.
Whatever my lot, thou has taught me to say, it is well, it is well with my soul.
Whats the theme in both songs?
Well, personally for a long time, I believed that you had to be happy all the time, never crying, never frowning, never getting upset, and everything had to be okay 100 percent of the time.
Is that what the songs were written to remind us of. Well , I didn’t write them, so I cannot say for sure. But I would venture to say. No.
Music and lyrics are my favorite. Words speak directly to me. And the cool thing is this notion of Perspective.
See: You could sing the first song and be like, um , Rachael, that has nothing to do with having to be happy all the time. Clearly, it is talking about the importance of having a good attitude.
For the second: You could say, Um.. Rachael, The song it is well is about facing each storm with peace and the understanding that everything works out in the end and we will be taken care of and protected.
Is my interpretation of the songs wrong? Is yours Wrong?
No.. Our perspectives are different. It’s the lense we are currently looking at the world through. Will our ideas shift from time to time? Yes. Will we experience a moment of clarity and understanding that changes our perspective.. I hope so. Those are always refreshing when they happen. Not always fun. But end up releasing us in some way or another.
How do your perspectives influence your reality?
Does anything need to shift or change?
How do you need to go about making those changes?
Be encouraged,
Rachael
