What seems distant in your life?
The prospect of graduating?
The prospect of marriage?
The end of a trying season?
Anything you feel you will “never make it to or through?”
I am learning that our feelings play tricks on us by influencing us to grab on to thoughts.
Specifically, guilt. A lot of the time, if i do not watch it, my thoughts gravitate toward the following:
You really screwed that up.
If you put yourself out there , you are going to embarrass yourself.
We’ve worked too hard to protect ourselves. How dare you betray the work you’ve put in to keep people away.
You’re going to fail.
Along with more, but you get the point. In the past, I let these thoughts trap me in a prison of shame and self hatred. So what did I do?
I work toward acceptance.
If you are looking for a book that will challenge you, you might check out Radical Acceptance by Tara Brach. One of the biggest things I have learned from this book lies in this quote:
“Radical acceptance means bringing a clear , kind attention to our capacities and limitations without giving our fear – based stories the power to shut down our lives” – Tara Brach
When we live in a place of fear. Our goals and dreams appear to be very distant and unattainable. The truth is , our breakthroughs , or freedom and our success is right around the corner.
What breakthrough are you waiting for?
What perception or idea would you have to let go of to reach it?
